Carbon Poker Review
Carbon Poker is a sleek online poker room that was established in 2005 as a member of the Merge Gaming Network. The software and graphics are top notch but Carbon Poker suffers from a small player base. There are plenty of small stakes games but once you get up into the middle limits and high limits, things really start to slow down.
The good news is that the Carbon Poker player base is steadily growing. A massive sign up bonus and lots of loyalty promotions have helped to substantially increase traffic at the poker room. If they can keep up the good work in that regard, Carbon Poker will soon become a major destination for poker players.
Carbon Poker Bonus
As an incentive to all new players, Carbon Poker offers a 100% up to $600 match deposit bonus on all first deposits. This means that if you sign up today and deposit anywhere up to $600, Carbon Poker will match your deposit with an equal amount. For example, if you deposit $400, they will throw in an additional $400 on top of that.
Your bonus money is then released in $5 increments by earning VIP Points in real money ring games and tournaments. For every 250 VIP Points you earn, $5 in bonus money is moved from your bonus account to your real money account. You can earn up to 10 VIP Points per hand so this bonus isn’t too difficult to clear.
Additionally, all new players also receive entry for 14 days into the daily Carbon Poker $500 New Depositor Freeroll. This is a great deal because the freeroll costs absolutely nothing to enter but you can still win real money. On top of that, the people in this freeroll are comically poor poker players.
Carbon Poker Tournaments
Carbon Poker has a big selection of tournaments that includes traditional freezeout tournaments, satellites, bounty tournaments, shoot-outs, sit-n-gos, freerolls and guaranteed prize pool. The Sunday $50,000 Guarantee is particularly popular because it never pays out less than fifty grand to its players. It doesn’t have the massive prize pool that some other poker sites offer but the competition is much weaker. If you want to have a realistic shot at winning real money, Carbon Poker is the place to do it.
Players can also win entry to a variety of major live tournaments through Carbon Poker’s satellite tournaments. These satellites start at just $2.00 but players can win entry to events like the World Series of Poker, Aussie Millions, the L.A. Poker Classic and more. These packages are worth up to $15,000 and include travel expenses and spending money.
Carbon Poker Player Traffic
Player traffic is Carbon Poker’s greatest weakness but it’s not so bad that you should avoid Carbon Poker. In fact, the small player base brings with it one major advantage: soft competition. The small player base is unattractive to multi-tabling pros so most of them don’t even give Carbon Poker a chance. This leaves behind all the players who aren’t as worried about grinding out a profit day after day.
At the time of this review, there were 4,271 players logged in at Carbon Poker. It’s not like the poker site is completely dead; it’s just that other poker sites have a lot more players. If you don’t mind the small player base, however, Carbon Poker is one of the softest poker sites in the world.
Carbon Poker Game Variety
It’s obvious Carbon Poker is planning on continued growth because their game variety is outstanding. As usual, you’ll find Texas Holdem and Omaha, but you can also play Omaha Hi-Lo, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo, Five Card Draw, Five Card Stud, A-5 Lowball, 2-7 Lowball, Razz, Badugi and mixed game formats such as H.O.R.S.E.
These games come in all buyin levels, starting from $0.01/$0.02 and going all the way up to $100/$200. It will be quite a while before the high stakes games become a regular thing but you’ll still find them running from time to time. As time passes and Carbon Poker continues to grow, you can expect to see major increases in the traffic at higher stakes
